TEE "The Earth Explorer"

TEE is a five piece flute front progressive rock band from Tokyo, Japan. Their so-called 'European' sound is unique considering their far-east origin. The imaginative tunes with complex ensembles and rhythms will definitely catch the attention of prog lovers all over the world. Their sound will remind you bands like Camel, King Crimson, Asia Minor or even Frank Zappa on some parts. The band was formed in 2004 when... more

Kevin BARTLETT

You may not know his name but you have definitely heard his music more than once or twice in your life. Maybe on HBO, or on MTV, or on VH1, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel. Doesn't ring the bell? How about American Idol Rewind, or Dr. 90210? We had interviewed Kevin Bartlett a couple of years ago when his second solo album GLOW IN THE DARK was released. Bartlett has been quiet since that time but but he has been secretly brewing new projects. A few months ago he had put a new song...more

MICHAEL JOHN THOMAS / GUITORCHESTRA

I first listened to the album in its entirety without reading the song titles or the composer's notes on the songs. As a visual arts person I like to try and see what the song is saying just by hearing it. From the first note to the last this album painted bright colors and themes for me and was always moving with emotion and imagination. I tend to like vocal music most of the time, but I always prefer instrumental when I work on artwork and I always need something that moves me and my moods when I do. I found this album to suit me very well in this aspect and it's found a place in the collection of music I keep at hand.

Production wise I can say it’s well rounded and complete and has a full and textured sound. It is a testament to the composer that he wrote, produced, and recorded everything himself and it speaks volumes for his imagination, talent and technical ability. The playing on the album is consistent and good across all instruments and the balance between lead guitar and backing track is tasteful and well done. Once I had listened to the work several times I went back and read the notes about the songs and found he had portrayed his intentions well because I found I saw and felt much of the same things he wanted to convey.

I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys guitar work and instrumental music. I found it a pleasant surprise all around and am glad it made its way to my speakers.
